This project investigates in what ways the echo of colonialism can still be felt in the dance world today. It questions if and how in the post-colonialist era the dance sector still supports the stereotypical binary: civilized-primitive, progressive-regressive, rational-senseless existing between the European and African cultures. In this piece two different languages of contemporary dance meet, the intuitive Tunisian and the institutionalized, intellectual European. How do the signatures of the two dancers differ? The ‘culture clash’ becomes the impulse for the mutual exploration of ways for dealing with each other. The word, clash is thus freed from its negative connotation of collision and instead is understood as the impetus for something new.
